Why Growing Numbers of Russian Soldiers Surrendering to Ukraine Forces

Six in Vovchansk, 27 in Kursk, 23 in Toretsk. For several weeks, reports have grown of increasing numbers of Russian soldiers surrendering to Ukrainian forces, even in sectors where the Russians are supposedly advancing.

The implication appears to be that the Russian are weary of being ordered to die in senseless assaults, especially as reports grow of an impending ceasefire. No one wants to be the last man to die for a failed idea. Not even a Russian. JL

Valentyna Romanenko reports in Ukraine Pravda:

Ukrainian troops from the 71st Separate Jaeger Brigade have captured Russian soldiers after repelling a Russian assault on the Vovchansk front. Russian soldiers, backed by armoured vehicles, attempted to breach Ukrainian defences, but a Ukrainian trooper struck a Russian MT-LB armoured personnel carrier (APC) with a grenade launcher. The surviving Russian troops disembarked from the APC and continued fighting but were eventually killed or captured.

Details: Russian soldiers, backed by armoured vehicles, attempted to breach Ukrainian defences, but a Ukrainian trooper struck a Russian MT-LB armoured personnel carrier (APC) with a grenade launcher.

The surviving Russian troops disembarked from the APC and attempted to storm the building where the 71st Brigade soldiers were holding their defence.

Ukrainian soldiers called for reinforcements and continued the fight, which lasted around three hours. With support from an assault team of a friendly unit, the Ukrainians cleared the building and captured six Russian soldiers
