Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad Defense Has Stabilized, Reinforcements Help Lines Holding

There have been no new reported breaches in the Pokrovsk sector for a while, reinforcing reports that the situation has stabilized enough for reinforcements to bolster the area's defenses.

It may still make sense for Ukraine to withdraw, but that time does not appear to be yet. JL

The New Voice of Ukraine reports:

Ukrainian defense continues to hold designated lines in the northern part of Pokrovsk and positions south of the railway. Russian forces are trying to cross the railway line to expand the area of the city they control, but these attempts are being blocked. "Enemy forces are being ground down." By increasing the number of UAV crews and tactical aviation, defenders are completing the cutoff of the enemy’s logistical routes into the city. The clearing of Russian infantry on the northern outskirts of the city is nearing completion. In the southern part of Myrnohrad, additional units having been deployed to detect and eliminate Russian infiltrators.

Ukrainian defense continues to hold designated lines in the northern part of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast, and positions south of the railway, crucial for future liberation operations, AFU 7th Rapid Response Corps reported on Nov. 21.

Russian occupation forces are trying to cross the railway line to expand the area of the city they control, but these attempts are being blocked.

“Enemy forces in Pokrovsk are being ground down," the 7th Corps said.

"As a result, the enemy is forced to replenish its manpower losses. Russian command has already committed the ‘Center’ operational reserve in our sector of responsibility — units of Russia’s 76th Air Assault Division.”

Ukrainian troops added that they are also building up their own grouping, particularly by increasing the number of UAV crews, to counter further Russian advances in Pokrovsk and conduct clearing operations.

“One of the key tasks for defenders remains the complete cutoff of the enemy’s logistical route s into the city, including with the use of tactical and army aviation,” the unit noted.

The paratroopers also described the situation in Myrnohrad.

According to them, the clearing of Russian infantry on the northern outskirts of the city is nearing completion. Movements of Russian troops have been recorded in the southern part of Myrnohrad, with additional units having been deployed to detect and eliminate them.

“Small enemy groups tried to infiltrate the village of Hryshyne, northwest of Pokrovsk. But Ukrainian troops detected and eliminated the enemy in time,” the defenders said.

Situation in Pokrovsk

On Nov. 11, the 7th Corps of the Air Assault Forces reported that in recent days, Russian troops had stepped up attempts to break into Pokrovsk using light vehicles, moving through the southern outskirts of the city and exploiting fog. There were already more than 300 Russian soldiers there.

On Nov. 12, Ukrainska Pravda, citing Ukrainian troops on the Pokrovsk axis and open-source videos, reported that Russian forces had been driving vehicles into the city since at least Nov. 6 and had begun deploying their mortars there.

On Nov. 14, AFU Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi confirmed that Russian forces continued trying to break through to residential areas in the Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad urban agglomeration and entrench there.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believes that Russian command is prioritizing the capture of Pokrovsk rather than its encirclement. Russian troops are advancing north and east of the city.

On Nov. 15, Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out an airstrike on a roadway near Pokrovsk to cut the logistical routes of Russian forces on the approaches to the city.

In its Nov. 16 assessment, ISW said Russian forces were trying to complete the encirclement of Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad.

On Nov. 18, the 7th Corps of the Air Assault Forces reported that the number of small-arms engagements in Pokrovsk was growing and that Russian losses from direct fire were increasing. Since the beginning of the month, Ukrainian Defense Forces have eliminated 314 Russian troops in the city, with another 71 wounded.
