61% of Germans See Trump As Threat To Their Country

The Germans have some experience with dictators' disregard for their lives and liberty and recognize a genuine threat when they see one.

They also happen to be a whole lot closer to Russia than are people in the US so their sense of urgency is understandably heightened. JL

Bild reports:

A clear majority of Germans see US President Donald Trump as a threat to Germany. An overwhelming 61% labelled the US president a threat to the country. The survey also found that Germans want Chancellor Friedrich Merz's government to take a harder line with Washington, with 52% advocating a firmer approach. The poll was carried out by the INSA institute and was commissioned by the mass-circulation Bild newspaper.

The survey also found that Germans want Chancellor Friedrich Merz's government to take a harder line with Washington, with 52% advocating a firmer approach and 31% seeing cooperation as the correct path.

The poll was conducted on Thursday and Friday amid high tensions between Europe and the United States over the Greenland dispute.

  1. Cyrillic fonts are not always easy to find in good quality so I appreciate what TypeType offers here. The cyrillic fonts feel carefully designed and readable. As a user this gives confidence when working with multilingual projects. It is clear that attention was paid to detail rather than treating Cyrillic as an afterthought.
