Dozens of Chechen Fighters Killed In Ukraine Strike On Occupied Vovchansk Building

Ukrainian forces are effectively targeting Russian units with their renewed supplies of artillery ammunition, especially in the Kharkiv sector.

Chechen units are particularly infamous for their lax electronic communications security which has made them easy targets for Ukrainian troops. JL

New Voice of Ukraine reports:

Dozens of Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov's fighters were killed in an airstrike on the frontline town of Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast (but) “Kadyrov dilutes his units a lot, usually he has about a dozen soldiers from other regions for every one ethnic Chechen." The powerful airstrike targeted a central hospital building used by Russian assault units as a hideout and place to mass troops in Vovchansk. The strike was carried out using glide bombs equipped with a JDAM kit.

Dozens of Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov's fighters were killed in an airstrike on the frontline town of Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, the deputy commander of the pro-Ukrainian Freedom of Russia Legion, Caesar, told FREEDOM TV channel on May 18.

The strike targeted the unit, which was made up of fighters controlled by Kadyrov and soldiers from other regions of Russia.

"These are not real Chechens, but slaves of (Russian dictator Vladimir) Putin, who live not by their own laws, not by federal laws, but by the laws of Kadyrov, who has Chechnya for his feeding,” he said.“Kadyrov dilutes his units a lot, usually he has about a dozen soldiers from other regions for every one ethnic Chechen."

Earlier, Ukraine's South Volunteer Army spokesperson, Serhiy Bratchuk, confirmed the powerful airstrike, which targeted a central hospital building used by Russian assault units as a hideout and place to mass troops in Vovchansk.

Military observer Yigal Levin reported that the strike was carried out using glide bombs equipped with a JDAM kit.

Ukrainian officials have not yet commented on the strike and its aftermath.

Russian offensive in Kharkiv Oblast

On May 10, Russian forces attempted to breach Ukraine's defenses near Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. Ukrainian forces successfully repelled the attacks.

At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian troops had launched a new counteroffensive in the area.

Monitoring groups noted that several villages in northern Kharkiv had been occupied.

Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, described the situation in Kharkiv Oblast as "escalating". He stated that Russian troops had extended the active combat zone by 70 km.
