Another Convoy In Russia Destroyed, This Time By Ukraine Night Drones

The Russians have shifted most transfers of troops, supplies and weaponry to the night time because it had made them harder for drones to hit.

But with the arrival of nocturnal thermal imaging drones, that protection level is not longer as secure as it had been earlier in the war. JL

Militarnyi reports:

Ukraine's 82nd Air Assault Brigade's “Wild Division” Strike Unmanned Aerial Systems Company destroyed an artillery convoy, hit by Ukrainian night drones in the rear behind the front line. One of the trucks was towing a 152 mm 2A36 Giatsint-B gun. Availability of night drones in the Ukrainian army has become sufficient to allow them to be used not only against important equipment on the front line but also against small groups of enemy infantry rotating under the cover of night. Most movements of equipment, artillery, and infantry of the Russians have shifted to the dark, when they are less noticeable. The drones can cover up to 50 kilometers with the help of a network of repeaters.

The Russians demonstrated a destroyed artillery convoy that had been hit by Ukrainian night drones in the rear behind the front line.

The video was posted by the Russia no context Telegram channel.

The footage captures three vehicles under fire that were hit behind the invaders’ lines while moving in a convoy. One of the trucks was loaded with unidentified boxes, and the third was towing a 152 mm 2A36 Giatsint-B gun.

According to the authors of the video, who were passing by the burning convoy, the night FPV drones hit the Russian equipment.

With the advancement of technology, drones have become perhaps the main threat on the front line, having expanded their range by tens of kilometers into the enemy’s rear over the past year.

Both conventional FPV drones and longer-range aircraft-type drones are used for strikes. The best of them can cover up to 50 kilometers with the help of a network of repeaters.

In view of this and the increased activity of Ukrainian reconnaissance UAV operators, most movements of logistics equipment, artillery, and even infantry of the Russian invaders have shifted to the dark, when they are less noticeable.

However, the situation started changing at the end of 2023, when the first mass-produced FPV drones with thermal imaging optical devices began to appear at the front, allowing them to destroy equipment under any conditions.

In particular, recently, one of these drones operated by the 12th Azov Brigade destroyed a Russian TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system in the Donetsk region.

The availability of night drones in the Ukrainian army has become sufficient to allow them to be used not only against important units of equipment on the front line but also against small groups of enemy infantry rotating under the cover of night.

The operators of the 82nd Air Assault Brigade of “Wild Division” Strike Unmanned Aerial Systems Company showed one of these episodes. They used a night FPV drone, Komar (Mosquito – ed.), that “crept up” on the invaders and hit them.

Since the beginning of the month, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have shot down a number of Russian reconnaissance drones using FPV drones.
