This was reported on Jan. 21 by Dmytro Zaporozhets, spokesperson for the Luhansk Operational Tactical Group, during a broadcast on Suspilne.
According to Zaporozhets, Russian forces continue assault operations in the region, aided by poor weather conditions such as fog and limited visibility, which allowed them to concentrate their forces in the northern part of the city.
"Gradually, after we destroyed positions in this area, the enemy decided it could assault the refractory plant. After they gathered and concentrated in one location, we struck, destroying enemy positions and personnel. As of now, the enemy has failed to secure the territory of the refractory plant," Zaporozhets said.
He added that Russian forces carried out 133 attacks on the Kramatorsk axis in the past 24 hours. Despite this, Ukrainian forces have prevented the Russians from consolidating their hold on the factory’s territory.
On Jan. 21, Ukraine’s General Staff reported nine battles on the Kramatorsk axis in the areas around Chasiv Yar and toward Stupochky on Jan. 20.
According to the Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Group of Forces, Ukrainian troops repelled Russian attacks near Stupochky, Krymske, and Ozarianivka. Some Ukrainian positions were damaged during enemy assaults and heavy fire.
"Measures are being taken to prevent further deterioration of the tactical situation," the group stated.
The fighting has now shifted into the urban areas of Chasiv Yar.
On Jan. 18, Ukrainska Pravda reported that Ukrainian forces had conducted an airstrike on the refractory plant, signaling its transition to Russian control.
Colonel Dmytro Zaporozhets confirmed the airstrike during a telethon broadcast, emphasizing that Ukrainian forces still control about 30% of Chasiv Yar.
The publication shared a video of the airstrike provided by the Luhansk Operational Tactical Group.
The report highlighted that the factory served as a key defensive stronghold for Ukrainian forces. Its loss forced Ukrainian troops to retreat into heavily damaged residential areas.
