Russia Lost 10-15,000 Soldiers Advancing Only 1.5 Kilometers At Pokrovsk

In the last month, Russian forces have lost 10,000 to 15,000 troops killed or wounded while gaining only 1.5 kilometers, considered an underwhelming and frankly pathetic performance given the amount of resources the Kremlin has committed to that sector as well as the advantage they have over Ukrainian units. Espreso Global reports:

Russian forces have lost at least 10,000–15,000 soldiers while advancing only 1.5 km in the Pokrovsk direction over the course of a month. Throughout the entire campaign in this area, Russian losses total 150,000 soldiers.Their losses in armored vehicles stand at 1,800 units. Their main goal is to threaten an operational encirclement and push Ukrainian Armed Forces from their positions. Essentially, they’re trying to avoid direct urban combat."

"Despite claims that the Ukrainian front has collapsed, this isn’t true. In the Pokrovsk direction, there are reports of [Russian forces] being only 5 km from the Dnipropetrovsk region. However, just a month ago, this distance was 6.5 km. In other words, over the past month, the Russians have advanced by no more than 1.5 km," Sniehyriov emphasized.

The expert pointed out that, according to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), Russian forces in the Pokrovsk direction suffer daily losses of 300 to 500 soldiers. Over a month, advancing 1.5 km cost them at least 10,000–15,000 troops. Moreover, throughout the entire campaign in this area, Russian losses reportedly total 150,000 soldiers, according to HUR estimates.

"The Russians have lost this many personnel in just one direction. Their losses in armored vehicles stand at 1,800 units. Still, there’s some progress: the occupiers now control the Pokrovsk-Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk-Mezhova routes. Their main goal is to threaten an operational encirclement and push Ukrainian Armed Forces from their positions. Essentially, they’re trying to avoid direct urban combat," Sniehyriov added.

  • On January 20 alone, there were 152 combat clashes along the Russian-Ukrainian front, with Russia focusing its efforts on the Pokrovsk direction.
  • Vasyl Chynchyk, head of the Toretsk city military administration, explained that Russia is trying to advance to open pathways toward Kostiantynivka and Chasiv Yar.
