“Our assault troops cleared positions of Russian invaders in the Pokrovsk direction,” the unit stated, releasing a video from the battlefield.
The assault unit operated efficiently and cohesively, defenders noted, sharing details of the operation.
“The M2 Bradley IFV provided fire cover for the assault group, drone operators supported with targeted drops, and the soldiers ‘smoked out’ the occupiers from their shelters,” Khortytsia’s statement added.
The situation in the Pokrovsk front
On Jan. 10, Serhii Dobriak, head of the Pokrovsk City Military Administration, stated that the front line is located just a few kilometers from Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast. Nearly all critical infrastructure in the city has been destroyed.
On Jan. 12, military officials reported that the occupiers had changed tactics in the Pokrovsk direction, attempting to bypass the city from the south to the west to reach Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. OSUV Khortytsia spokesperson Viktor Trehubov confirmed that the invaders are trying to encircle Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad from the southern flank.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on Jan. 14 that Russian forces had already cut several routes to the southwest and east of Pokrovsk. This appears to be an attempt to encircle Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, disrupt the logistics of Ukraine’s Defense Forces, and force them to withdraw without fighting.
On Jan. 16, it was revealed that mine workers in Pokrovsk had destroyed the mine shaft to prevent Russian occupiers from accessing underground tunnels. This mine was the only one in Ukraine extracting coking coal vital for the steel industry.
On Jan. 27, reports indicated that Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast remains the main direction of focus for Russian forces, who are trying to bypass the city from the west.
