Russian Kursk Attacks Falter, Decline As Less Armor Evident

The situation for Russian forces in Kursk was dire enough even when they had the assistance of North Korean troops. But now that the decimated Koreans have been withdrawn to 'reorganize,' a euphemism for attempting to rebuild units shattered by death and destruction, the Russians are suffering even more.

It is now to the point that the Russians are being forced to attack without armor and artillery support because it is evidently perceived by their command to be a pointless waste to deploy valuable assets against their inevitable destruction by Ukrainian drone forces. JL

New Voice of Ukraine reports:

Russian forces in Kursk oblast have begun using less military equipment in their assaults on Ukrainian defense positions, and according to the operators of strike unmanned aerial vehicle complexes (UAVs) from the 225th Brigade, Russian attempts to push back Ukrainian forces in Kursk Oblast continue to fail. "The amount of equipment has noticeably decreased compared to last month, which may indicate resource difficulties." Ukrainian forces resumed offensive actions in at least three areas of Kursk Oblast two weeks before the inauguration of Donald Trump.

Russian forces in Kursk Oblast have begun using less military equipment in their assaults on Ukrainian defense positions, the 225th Separate Assault Battalion reported on Telegram on Feb. 3, alongside releasing footage of battles in the area.

According to the operators of strike unmanned aerial vehicle complexes (UAVs) from the 225th Brigade, Russian attempts to push back Ukrainian forces in Kursk Oblast continue to fail. The Russian military command persists in trying to dislodge Ukrainian troops.

"Attacks are being carried out both by infantry units and with the support of armored vehicles," the 225th Brigade noted.

“However, the amount of equipment has noticeably decreased compared to last month, which may indicate resource difficulties or a change in tactics.”

Ukrainian defenders also highlighted the role of drone operators in the war against Russia.

"On one of the fronts, under the cover of fog, the enemy launched an assault, attempting to establish positions in the woods and ruins," the 225th Brigade reported, sharing footage of enemy destruction.

“At this time, drone operators play a crucial role, providing infantry with operational support and quality reconnaissance.”

Ukraine’s new offensive in Kursk Oblast

On Jan. 5, reports emerged of a new offensive by Ukrainian forces in certain areas of Kursk Oblast.

Later, Andriy Yermak, head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, indirectly confirmed the offensive, while Andriy Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defense Council’s Disinformation Counteraction Center, confirmed it directly.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War noted that Ukrainian forces had resumed offensive actions in at least three areas of Kursk Oblast, achieving tactical advances.

Der Spiegel reported that Ukraine’s offensive in Kursk Oblast began two weeks before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, emphasizing vulnerabilities in Russia’s defenses.

The Presidential Office described the area as a resource for Ukraine.

“This is our resource to trade Kursk Oblast territories for the Ukrainian land that Russia currently occupies,” said Serhii Leshchenko, an adviser to the Presidential Office head.

On Jan. 7, The Telegraph reported that, weeks before Trump’s inauguration, Ukrainian forces had achieved successes in Kursk Oblast, offering “great hope for peace on terms acceptable to Ukraine.”

On Jan. 11, The Washington Post reported that if Ukrainian forces withdraw from Kursk Oblast, the 60,000 Russian soldiers stationed there would advance into Ukraine and occupy more territory.

On Feb. 3, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi held a meeting to review the army's activities in January 2025 and stated that Ukraine's priorities include the Kursk operation and strikes on military targets within Russia.
