Ukraine Will Produce 100% of Its Artillery Needs By End Of 2025

Ukraine expects to produce all of its artillery by the end of this year and 50% of its total weapons needs.

This comes from planning that began well before the Trump administration threatened to cut off military aid. These domestic production capabilities, combined with aid from Europe - and possibly reinstated aid from the US - will be sufficient to prevent depleted Russian forces from making any significant gains. Alex Stezhensky reports in MSN:

Underscoring the country’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing, “Today, Ukraine is producing its own artillery. By the end of this year, we will be able to meet 100% of our artillery needs with domestic production.” Ukraine has tripled its artillery output, increased armored personnel carrier production fivefold, doubled its production of anti-tank weapons, and expanded ammunition production by 2.5 times. "Ukraine is already independently producing more than 30% of the weapons, equipment, and ammunition needed for defense. Our goal is to reach 50%."

“Today, Ukraine is producing its own artillery. By the end of this year, we will be able to meet 100% of our artillery needs with domestic production,” Shmyhal said, underscoring the country’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

He highlighted the surge in production over the past three years, noting that Ukraine has tripled its artillery output, increased armored personnel carrier production fivefold, doubled its production of anti-tank weapons, and expanded ammunition production by 2.5 times.

“I want to emphasize that Ukraine is already independently producing more than 30% of the weapons, equipment, and ammunition needed for defense. Our goal is to reach 50%. We are actively developing this sector, and I am confident we will achieve this target this year,” he said.

Ukraine’s domestic weapons production

On Jan. 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that about 33-34% of the weapons used on the battlefield are produced in Ukraine, more than 30% come from Europe, and 40% are supplied by the United States.

On Feb. 7, Shmyhal announced that the government is working on a mechanism for long-term contracts with defense manufacturers. This, he said, would provide stability and predictability for weapons and ammunition production.

On Feb. 21, at the Defense Tech Innovations Forum 2025, Ukraine unveiled the Trembita missile, a homegrown weapon capable of reaching speeds of up to 400 km/h and striking strategic enemy targets.

On Feb. 25, Vice Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science, and Technology and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov revealed that 19 Ukrainian companies are now producing missiles of various types, ranging from small drone-launched munitions to full-scale ballistic and cruise missiles.
