Ukrainian forces hold Russian troops in Kursk region, preventing a new threat to Sumy. Fighting continues near Tiotkino, where Russian troops are nearly encircled
Ukrainian military observer Vasyl Pehno shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“In two areas, Ukrainian forces remain on the territory of Russia’s Kursk region, near the village of Gornal, close to Ukraine’s Myropillia. This helps block a potentially dangerous route for Russian forces toward Sumy,” Pehno explained.
He added that the main hotspot in the region is near the village of Tiotkino, where Russian troops are nearly surrounded. “Ukrainian forces are shelling them from three sides, making the position highly unfavorable for the Russians,” he said.
Pehno added that Ukrainian forces have taken fire control over Russian supply routes in the area, making the Russian presence in Tiotkino strategically pointless.
“The Russians should have already withdrawn, but politically, Putin and his circle can’t afford to — retreating from part of the Kursk region would contradict all their propaganda narratives,” he said.
He also noted that Russia continues to send reinforcements to the Kursk region.
“These units are being destroyed by Ukrainian drone operators, who are effectively disrupting logistics, and by the Air Force, which is actively striking Tiotkino with air-dropped munitions, targeting concentrations of Russian troops,” Pehno added.

Ukraine's Kursk Forces Trapped Russian Units, Disrupting Sumy Offensive
Ukrainian troops continue to disrupt Russia's faltering Sumy efforts. They have now almost completely encircled Moscow's force in Tiotkino, surrounding them from three sides.
The Kremlin refuses to withdraw its troops because it would look bad and has sent reinforcements, distracting from and weakening other sectors. JL
