Ukraine Takes Out Largest Russian Pipeline, Refineries, Drone Factories

In a coordinated series of strikes, Ukrainian forces took the largest Russian oil pipeline servicing its troops in Ukraine as well as refineries, drone factories and other strategic targets.

The purpose of the attacks is both to reduce Russian military capabilities and to further challenge Russian morale as the impact of the war on the economy and on personal safety becomes clearer. JL

Demian Shevko reports in New Voice of Ukraine:

Ukrainian defense forces carried out a coordinated overnight drone strike on Aug. 2, targeting multiple high-value military and industrial sites across Russia. The confirmed targets hit include:An oil refinery in Russia’s Ryazan Oblast; The Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery in Samara Oblast; The Anna-Neft oil storage base in Voronezh Oblast; The Electropribor plant in Penza Oblast, which manufactures secure telecom systems, encryption devices, and circuit boards for Russian military equipment

Ukrainian defense forces carried out a coordinated overnight drone strike on Aug. 2, targeting multiple high-value military and industrial sites across Russia in retaliation for recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported.

The confirmed targets hit include:

  • An oil refinery in Russia’s Ryazan Oblast

  • The Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery in Samara Oblast

  • The Anna-Neft oil storage base in Voronezh Oblast

  • The Electropribor plant in Penza Oblast, which manufactures secure telecom systems, encryption devices, and circuit boards for Russian military equipment

  • The strikes resulted in multiple explosions and fires at the targeted facilities, according to Ukraine’s military. The operation involved units from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service (SBU), the Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), and the Armed Forces' Drone Systems Forces.

The SBU also confirmed a successful drone strike on the Shahed drone storage and launch site at the Primorsko-Akhtarsk airfield in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. A fire broke out near the drone launch area following the attack.

In a separate strike, drones hit the Electropribor plant in the Russian city of Penza. The facility produces equipment for military communications systems, aircraft, armored vehicles, naval vessels, and spacecraft. Smoke was observed near the site.

Russian officials acknowledged limited damage. Penza Oblast Governor Oleg Melnichenko claimed one person was killed and another injured. Rostov Oblast Governor Yuriy Slyusar also confirmed a drone attack in his region.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its air defenses shot down 112 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions, including Ryazan, Samara, Penza, Voronezh, Belgorod, and Lipetsk oblasts, Krasnodar Krai, and occupied Crimea. As usual, Moscow did not disclose how many drones reached their targets.

Earlier on Aug. 2, explosions were reported near the Dyagilevo airfield in Ryazan and around Feodosia in occupied Crimea. Social media reports indicated a fire near a fuel depot in Crimea
