Why Russia's Ukraine Battle Casualties Are So Numerous and Serious

There is no functioning Russian battlefield medevac system and no culture of unit cohesion or 'battle buddies' who look out for each other because the entire system is geared to helping grift for senior officers.

Those wounded in typical armored warfare suffer burns and limb amputations. Without quick treatment, they die. Which is why Russian casualty ratios are 2 dead, 3 wounded rather than 1 dead, 4 wounded as in most modern militaries. JL

Trent Telenko reports in Twitter:

The signature wounds of armored warfare are traumatic limb amputations and burns. That plane should have been full of men with burns & amputations, if there was a functioning Russian battlefield medevac system. There isn't. In the Russian army, it is every man for himself. There is no unit cohesion. There are no 'battle buddies' or 'squad lifesavers.'If you do not have Russian soldiers helping the badly burned and amputated casualties with 1st aid immediately & to battalion aid stations w/in an hour most of those classic armored casualties will die. This behavior is the biggest reason the Russian casualty ratio is 2 dead, 3 wounded, & not the typical 1 dead, 4 wounded ratio.Ukraine signed the Ottawa Treaty banning anti-personnel landmines and destroyed it's AP land mine stock in the mid 2000's. The only AP (antipersonnel) landmines in Ukraine have been put there by Russians. So no 'toe poppers' to wound Russians. The signature wounds of armored warfare are traumatic limb amputations and burns. It is as true in 2022 Ukraine as it was in 1945 Cologne Germany. Both German & US tankmen lost limbs when there tanks were knocked out. I've talked about the casualty implications of the armor heavy nature of the Russian Army in Ukraine before. That plane should have been full of men with burns & amputations, if there was a functioning Russian battlefield medevac system. It wasn't. A Ukrainian drone grenade strike video on a group of four Russian soldiers explains why that is. In the Russian army, it is every man for himself. There is no unit cohesion. There are no 'battle buddies' or 'squad lifesavers.'If you do not have Russian soldiers helping the badly burned and amputated Russian casualties with 1st aid immediately & to battalion aid stations w/in an hour. Most of those 'classic armored casualties' will die before they get to that Russian casualty evacuation plane. This battlefield behavior is the biggest reason why I state that the Russian casualty ratio is 2 dead and three wounded, & not the 1 dead & four wounded ratio the CIA claimed when it published 15K Russian dead in 75K total casualties figure.People are looking at the raw numbers here, look at the casualty ratio instead:The Russians have 37% KIA & 63% WIA, a 2 to 3 ratio. This represents an utter collapse the Russian medical evacuation & treatment system. Note, no "missing". And Ukrainian drone strike videos are also the reason I think Ukrainian reports of Russian dead are creditable. It was my experience in 2014-2015 monitoring Donbas fighting that the Ukrainians consistently _UNDERCOUNTED_ Russian casualties for credibility reasons. No one who hasn't seen dozens of drone battle damage assessment videos of Russian 'every man for himself' battlefield behavior could believe Ukrainian numbers. That the CIA still uses that obsolete Russian casualty ratio says a great deal about both their internal and ..external classified work product, senior policy maker, audiences. Credibility with the American public and the US military officer corps doesn't seem to be a priority.
