In First Days Of New Law, Over 1 million Ukrainians Have Registered For Draft

That is an impressive number in the midst of what every Ukrainian knows is a brutal war.

And it counters the negative tone of some western media (with the New York Times again leading in the Neville Chamberlain Capitulation narrative) that Ukrainians were losing heart. JL

Decimus reports in Daily Kos:

In the first few days of online registration, well over a million men have signed up and of those 700,000 have confirmed and updated their draft status, making them immediately available for training and service. Ukraine, with all that was suddenly thrust on them by the war, had not put into place a robust system for military draft call-ups.  They have now codified and instituted the necessary enabling laws and systems. And it is working.

Recent propaganda made it seem like Ukrainians did not want to go fight for their country.  The stories of some who tried escaping Ukraine to avoid being drafted into the military(and drowned in the process) got major play in the media.  The reality was that Ukraine with all that was suddenly thrusted on them by the war had not put into place a robust system for military draft call-ups.  They have now codified and instituted the necessary enabling laws and systems. And it is working.

In the first few days of online registration, well over a million men have signed up and of those 700,000 have confirmed and updated their draft status, making them immediately available for training and service.  The calumny of Ukrainians not being willing to fight for their country can now be put aside.
