Russia's Land Forces Are Bigger Than 2022, But Quality Has Decreased

NATO believes Russia's military is less capable than it was when it invaded Ukraine but could be capable of attacking parts of Europe within six years. 

It is urging businesses to begin protecting their production and logistics capabilities in order to address the potential threat. JL

Russia's land forces are bigger now than at the time of Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 but their quality has decreased. "At the moment, the Russians are not the same threat as in February 2022, so we have a bit of time to prepare ourselves." He also urged businesses to be prepared for a wartime scenario and adjust their production and distribution lines accordingly to be less vulnerable to blackmail from countries such as Russia and China. "If we can make sure that all crucial services and goods can be delivered no matter what, then that is a key part of our deterrence."

Russia's land forces are bigger now than at the time of Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 but their quality has decreased since, a NATO top military official said on Monday.

"The quality of those forces has gone down," the Chair of NATO's Military Committee, Dutchman Admiral Rob Bauer, said, pointing to the state of the force's equipment and the level of training of its soldiers.

 

"At the moment, the Russians are not the same threat as in February 2022, so we have a bit of time to prepare ourselves," he said, adding that this meant ramping up investments into the defence industry. 

 

He also urged businesses to be prepared for a wartime scenario and adjust their production and distribution lines accordingly to be less vulnerable to blackmail from countries such as Russia and China.

"If we can make sure that all crucial services and goods can be delivered no matter what, then that is a key part of our deterrence," Bauer said. 

Bruno Kahl, Head of Germany's Foreign Intelligence Service, believes that Russia will be capable of attacking NATO territory within the next six years.
