Ukraine Destroyed Russian Kursk Command HQ Before Latest Assault

The Kremlin admitted yesterday that Ukraine had launched yet another new assault in Kursk oblast which, by the end of its first day, had already advanced over 5 kilometers.

What the Kremlin did not say was that days before the surprise assault, the Ukrainian air force targeted and knocked out the Russian command center responsible for leading the units operating in the area that Ukraine was about to assault. The command center attack destroyed the facility and killed over 20 Russian and North Korean officers. Ukraine continues to impress with strategic planning and executional prowess of this sort. JL

New Voice of Ukraine reports:

Ukrainian forces struck a Russian command headquarters before launching their renewed offensive in Russia’s Kursk Oblast on Feb. 6, killing around 20 officers, including senior Russian and North Korean officers. The Ukrainian Air Force had struck a Russian command post in the Novoivanivka area of Kursk Oblast on Feb. 3. The command center suffered significant damage. “Before advancing 2.5 kilometers, our forces hit their command post, killing a large number of officers.

Ukrainian forces struck a Russian command headquarters before launching their renewed offensive in Russia’s Kursk Oblast on Feb. 6, killing around 20 officers, including senior Russian and North Korean officers, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with Reuters published on Feb. 8.

“Before advancing 2.5 kilometers, our forces hit their command post, killing a large number of officers. I was told that 20 officers died, including senior North Korean and Russian officers,” Zelenskyy stated.

He described the strike as a “very strong operation.”

Ukrainian Air Force targets Russian command post

On Feb. 4, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that the Air Force had struck a Russian command post in the Novoivanivka area of Kursk Oblast on Feb. 3. The command center suffered significant damage, resulting in heavy casualties among Russian personnel, according to the General Staff.

On Feb. 6, Russian military bloggers reported that Ukraine had launched a new offensive in Kursk Oblast, advancing toward the settlements of Fanasiivka and Ulanok. Some claimed Ukrainian forces had captured Cherkaska Konopelka and Ulanok, while Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed that Ukraine had begun an offensive.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that as of Feb. 6, Ukrainian forces had pushed up to five kilometers beyond Russian defensive lines southeast of Sudzha.

On Feb. 7, DeepState, a well-known open-source intelligence group, confirmed that Ukrainian forces had advanced near Cherkaska Konopelka in Kursk Oblast.
