The soldiers of the 225th Separate Assault Battalion liberated the village of Andriivka on the border of Sumy region, approximately 5 kilometers from the border with Russia.
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in his evening address.
“There was a report from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi on the front line and our active operations. Particular and very significant attention is being paid to the Pokrovsk sector and our Sumy region, the border areas of our Sumy region. We are managing to drive Russian troops out of there. I thank all our units who are really delivering results,” Volodymyr Zelenskyi said.
According to the President, the soldiers of the 225th Separate Assault Battalion deserve special gratitude for their offensive actions in the border area of the Sumy region and the liberation of Andriivka, in particular.
“Thank you, guys, very much! I would also like to commend the 425th Separate Assault Battalion for their successful actions in the Pokrovsk sector. The 1st Assault Regiment and the 82nd Air Assault Brigade also distinguished themselves in the battles in the Donetsk region. Thank you very much! There are good results in the Kupiansk sector with the 3rd Assault Regiment. Thank you! Kursk operation: we are continuing our active operations on enemy territory. The 33rd Separate Assault Regiment, the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade, and the 103rd Territorial Defense Brigade deserve special mention. Thank you for your courage!” said Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
A day earlier, on June 13, Deputy Chairman of the Sumy Regional Council Volodymyr Bitsak reported that the Russian offensive had been halted and a counteroffensive had begun.
According to him, half of the village of Kindrativka is already under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Russians have been driven out of the village of Andriivka.
At the same time, he noted that in the area of the settlements of Konstantynivka, Basivka, and Yunakivka, the Russians were continuing their attacks and trying to advance deeper — “there were 30 such attacks over the past day.”
It is known that in early June, the units of the 225th Separate Assault Battalion had been operating in the Kursk region, near the village of Tyotkine.
On June 2, Ukrainian assault troops managed to advance closer to the village of Tyotkine and capture a Russian company stronghold, thus encircling Russian units in Tyotkine on three sides.
For several days, Ukrainian artillery and FPV drones struck the position. After that, infantry went on the offensive.
Ukrainian aviation was even called in to capture this stronghold, destroying enemy shelters with four SDB high-precision bombs.
