Ukraine "Devastates" Rare Russian Tank Attack On Pokrovsk's "Road of Death"

Not for nothing is it called the "Road of Death" as Russian forces which have repeatedly attempted to attack along it are just as repeatedly annihilated. 

But perhaps feeling both Kremlin pressure and overoptimism about their chances, the Russians again, yesterday, launched a mechanized assault along the route. It worked about as well as previous efforts, which is to say, damage was heavy and survivors were few. Not that that will probably dissuade the Russians from trying again once they can scrape together another assault team. JL

Ukrainian soldiers of the 155th Mechanised Brigade repelled a mechanised assault by the Russian forces near the village of Shevchenko on the Pokrovsk front. They deployed tanks “for the first time in a long time,” mused the Ukrainian 155th Mechanized Brigade that has been defending Pokrovsk since late last year and was in position to utterly devastate the incoming tanks and other vehicles on Saturday. Ukrainian fighters repelled the attack as the Russians used equipment that has long been an easy target for FPV drone crews, especially in open terrain.

Tasting blood in the fields and forests around Pokrovsk, a free fortress city in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast, Russian regiments did something they rarely do in the 42nd month of Russia’s wider war on Ukraine.

They deployed tanks “for the first time in a long time,” mused the Ukrainian 155th Mechanized Brigade, a bad-luck unit that has been defending Pokrovsk since late last year. The brigade’s fortunes have improved of late—and it was in a position to utterly devastate the incoming tanks and other vehicles on Saturday.

Details: DeepState analysts note that for the first time in a long time, the Russian forces carried out a mechanised assault, using heavy equipment to break through Ukrainian defences.

Quote DeepState: "And such an assault took place not out of the blue, but as part of a consistent attempt to break through after the earlier infiltration of an infantry group into Pokrovsk.

However, the place chosen for the assault remains a mystery, namely the area of the village of Shevchenko, instead of Zvirove, where the Katsaps found a weak point in the defence." ["Katsap" is a derogatory term for Russians used in Ukraine – ed.]
