Leo Chiu reports in the Kyiv Post:
Russian soldiers within Russia’s 115th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade set a truck on fire to prevent deployment to Pokrovsk. The unit is headquartered at the village of Lastochkyne, just northwest of Avdiivka. “By doing so, they delayed deployment and secured their own lives. The soldiers see their command abandoning personnel to certain death, giving them no rest or evacuation,” Over 100 commanders are accused of torturing and executing their own troops in Ukraine for reasons ranging from disobeying orders to refusing to hand over a share of their injury pay.Russian soldiers reportedly set their unit’s trucks on fire to block deployment to the embattled eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk.
Russia has been trying to capture the key logistics hub for Kyiv troops in the Donetsk region for years, and recent intensified assaults have breached the city’s defenses, leaving troops scattered in its southern areas.
Ukrainian partisan group Atesh, in an update accompanied by a video, said one of its agents within Russia’s 115th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade set a truck on fire to prevent deployment to Pokrovsk.
The video, without narration, shows the person filming igniting a flammable substance on a Russian truck with the pro-war “Z” insignia painted on the door.
Atesh said the unit is stationed near Avdiivka, another key battleground in the Donetsk region captured by Russian troops in February 2024. Open-source battlefield map DeepState said the 115th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade is headquartered at the village of Lastochkyne, just northwest of Avdiivka.
However, Kyiv Post cannot independently verify the authenticity of Atesh’s reports.
The group alleged that poor Russian command has prompted the agents to conduct similar sabotage operations.
“By doing so, the agents delayed the unit’s deployment and secured their own lives. The soldiers see their command abandoning personnel to certain death, giving them no rest or evacuation,” the update says.
A recent investigation by independent Russian media has identified over 100 commanders accused of torturing and executing their own troops in Ukraine for reasons ranging from disobeying orders to refusing to hand over a share of their injury pay.
Atesh then called for more Russian troops to defect in its update.
“Our agents prove that every Russian soldier can fight for their life without leaving their unit! Sabotage is the most effective way to avoid being sent to the slaughter,” the update says.
“We call on all Russian service members to do the same! Save your lives!”
