In 1 year, Ukraine's $880 MM Drone Line Has Made the Front A Russian Death Trap

A conceptual talking point has become a military reality. Every third Russian soldier now faces the possibility of a drone attack. 30,000 a month become casualties, with Ukraine's goal being to raise that to 50,000.

This is what executing military strategy looks like. And apparently the US military in the Middle East is now asking for Ukraine's assistance. JL

Olena Mukhina reports in Euromaidan Press:

A year ago, Ukraine launched the "Drone Line" to scale up its UAV units. The initiative allocated $880 million allowing Ukraine to acquire FPV drones, ISR systems, and unmanned aerial bombers on a large scale. Now, the project operates more than 1,000 drone crews who systematically strike Russian targets related to its war. In 2025, Ukraine carried out 371 strikes on Russian territory, inflicting $13 billion in losses on Russia’s oil and gas sector. The project’s goal creates zones where Russian troops cannot move without taking losses, as Ukrainian units detect and destroy targets before they approach Ukrainian positions. At the start of 2026, every third Russian soldier on the front faced UAV attacks.

A year ago, Ukraine launched the “Drone Line”, a large-scale initiative to scale up the most effective unmanned systems units of the Ukrainian army, Defense Ministry reports. Now, the project operates more than 1,000 drone crews who systematically strike Russian targets related to its war.

The initiative has allocated $880 million, with the Netherlands contributing, allowing Ukraine to acquire FPV drones, ISR systems, and unmanned aerial bombers on a large scale.

Ukraine continues to expand its deep-strike drone campaign against Russia, increasing both the range and frequency of attacks as Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine enters its fourth year. In 2025, Ukraine carried out 371 strikes on Russian territory, inflicting $13 billion in losses on Russia’s oil and gas sector.

Over 1,000 drone crews on the front

Military sources report that at the beginning of 2026, every third Russian soldier on the front faced UAV attacks.

The project’s goal creates zones where the Russian troops cannot move without taking losses, while Ukrainian units detect and destroy targets before they approach Ukrainian positions.

FPV and ISR boost frontline efficiency

The initiative began in March 2025 and quickly became one of the largest foreign mechanisms for direct funding of Ukraine’s defense-industrial complex in the UAV sector.

During the past winter, the Forces of Unmanned Systems eliminated approximately 30,000 Russian occupiers. These results demonstrate how systematic drone use transforms into a technological advantage and an effective tool for halting enemy advances.

From sporadic use to systematic advantage

The Ministry of Defense envisions expanding and scaling the “Drone Line” as a key condition for stopping Russia’s ground offensives. The project shows Ukraine’s shift from sporadic UAV use to a systematic approach, integrating drones as a core element of tactical operations and strategic planning.

Earlier, a major Ukrainian strike on the Novorossiysk Bay, 350-400 km behind the front line, hit an extraordinary range of targets in a single operation. The confirmed damage list: naval minesweeper Valentin Pikul hit, anti-submarine ship Yeysk seriously damaged, frigate Admiral Essen struck amidships with detonation of its PK-10 countermeasure launchers.
