Decimus reports in Daily Kos:
The Ukrainians have once again slammed shut the door on the Russians as those in inner Pokrovsk tries to break out into the surrounding exurbia. The Russians infiltrated into Hrysyhne been beaten, but the Ukrainians are pushing them back into areas of concentration across the city. All about Pokrovsk, the doors are locked except for the one to the south where the Russians first entered. And now they are being shoved back there. The coordinated push is to destabilize Russian operational tempo, the strategy of “Give them no rest," an intense, multi-layered effort to deny Russian forces any rest, stability, or respite. This centers on high-intensity, round-the-clock, attrition-focused operations rather than territorial liberation, aimed at degrading Russian manpower and logistics faster than they can be replenished.Pokrovsk: At the risk of over using the meme from the Eagles’ 1976 hit song “Hotel California” ("You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave"), the Ukrainians have once again slammed shut the door on the Russians as the occupantyi , now crowded into the inner city of Pokrovsk tries to break out into the surrounding exurbia.
Not only has the attempt by the Russians to infiltrate their way into the key northwestern village of Hrysyhne been beat back, but the Ukrainians have turned the tables on the Russians and are pushing them back into the Russian areas of concentration across the city. All about Pokrovsk, the doors are locked except for the one to the south where the Russians first entered. And now they are being shoved back into that door. According to Chuck Pfarrer[Indications and Warnings] writing on X:
UKR forces cross the Zero Line, advancing east of Molodetske (SW of Pokrovsk). UKR units in contact East of the T-04-06 and South of the M-30 HWY. Geolocated footage confirms territorial gains. Russian infiltration attempts in northern Hryshyne repelled by Ukrainian strike drones and drone adjusted fires. Russian assaults were broken up near Pokrovsk proper, Hryshyne/ Novooleksandrivka (NW), Rodynske/Bilytske (N), Myrnohrad/Rivne (E), and Udachne/Kotlyne (SW). Ukrainian counterattacks reported near Hryshyne/ Molodetske.
As the map and the geolocations indicate, this appears to be a coordinated Ukrainian push all around Pokrovsk to destabilize the Russian concentration and operational tempo ... part of what is now being termed as the new Ukrainian strategy of “Give them no rest”.
As of April 2026, the Ukrainian military has adopted an intense, multi-layered strategy designed to deny Russian forces any rest, stability, or respite along the front line. This strategy centers on high-intensity, round-the-clock, attrition-focused operations rather than solely prioritizing rapid territorial liberation, aimed at degrading Russian manpower and logistics faster than they can be replenished:
The "no-rest" strategy is predicated upon these key elements:
- Massive Drone Warfare: Ukraine has achieved a significant advantage in the drone war, utilizing over 7,300 assault drones in March 2026 alone to strike Russian positions. These drones target infantry, equipment, and armored vehicles, often accounting for up to 70% of Russian casualties in certain sectors.
- Search and Destroy Squads: In a “we too can infiltrate and sabotage” fashion Ukraine is employing small, specialized "search and destroy" squads that infiltrate or disrupt Russian lines, confusing them by attacking from multiple directions and focusing on eliminating personnel rather than engaging in large, conventional battles.
- Middle-Zone Logistics Destruction: Deny them provender and sustenance. A concerted campaign is targeting Russian rear-area infrastructure—military depots, transport hubs, and fuel infrastructure within 20 to 300 kilometers of the front line—to disrupt supply chains and deny the logistical stability needed for long-term assaults. General Ulysses S. Grant’s 1864 Shenandoah Valley campaign instructions to General Phil Sheridan re-born in Ukraine in 2026.
- Persistent Counterattacks: Hit them, kill them before they get to the zero line. Ukrainian forces are actively counterattacking, such as in the Kupyansk and Pokrovsk directions, forcing the Russian command to constantly redeploy resources and preventing them from concentrating for their planned 2026 spring-summer offensives.
- Extremely High Casualty Rates: Ukraine’s new youthful Defense Minister Federov’s goal of killing 50,000 Russian soldiers per month is well under way. It’s at 35K and climbing. The strategy has driven Russian losses to record levels, with some reports indicating that in the first quarter of 2026, Russia lost roughly 89,000 soldiers while only recruiting around 80,000, creating a negative balance that prevents them from replenishing their ranks.
- Targeting Infrastructure and Air Defense: Ongoing long-range, drone-led strikes are systematically destroying Russian logistics, air defenses, and radar systems in occupied Crimea and mainland Russia, reducing their ability to protect their own troops.
It is also important to note that as part of Targeting Infrastructure and Air Defense, the recent destruction by Ukraine of the only remaining major military supply ferry ship across the Kerch Strait, the Slavyanin, now forces Russia to make a very difficult decision on whether to attempt re-opening the wobbly rail section of the Kerch Bridge which Ukraine earlier attacked on several occasions(and will now likely attack again) or resort to the long and dangerous route through Donetsk oblast in order to supply Russian forces in Crimea, Zaporizhia and Kherson(the Ukrainian drones and the partisans of Atesh will be waiting)):
Ukrainian forces disabled the "Slavyanin" railway ferry, the last vessel of this kind operating in the Kerch Strait to supply the Russian army in occupied Crimea, Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) said on April 8.
Pokrovsk is just a taste of what the Russians will face in the months ahead. With its new drone dominance of the battle space, ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE intends to use this continuous pressure to break the combat spirit of Russian forces and disrupt the logistical support required to maintain their positions, with the ultimate goal of making the continued occupation of Ukrainian territory untenable. Not only will they not give away Donetsk to Putin(as Krasnov wishes) but the Ukrainians intend to make it hard for the Russians to stay in Ukraina(“our land”)
