New Advances Around Kupiansk Solidify Ukraine Gains As Russians Falter

Ukraine has continued to push Russian forces in the Kupiansk sector further back, solidifying gains by the Ukrainian Khartia Corps and weakening the potential Russian threat in that sector. 

This is, again, evidence of multiple setbacks for the Kremlin's troops along the front. JL

Ukrainian forces advanced in the area near the village of Zapadne in the Kupiansk district. Foreign volunteers from the Ukrainian Defence Forces, supported by strike drone operators, were among those who cleared Russian occupiers in the district. Russian troops had set up defensive positions in Zapadne and Dvorichna. Zapadne is located 10 kilometers (6 miles) north of Kupiansk — an important logistics hub in eastern Kharkiv oblast that connects the region with Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. The 23rd RUG assault unit, part of the 2nd Khartiia Corps, retook Zapadne and the wooded areas south and east of the village. 

On Sep. 22, Ukrainian forces advanced in the area near the village of Zapadne in the Kupiansk district, DeepState, an OSINT war monitoring group said. 

Foreign volunteers from the Ukrainian Defence Forces, supported by strike drone operators, were among those who cleared a position held by Russian occupiers in the Kupiansk district. Following the battle, the Ukrainian defenders also collected war trophies left behind by the enemy.

According to Censor.NET, a video showing footage of the combat operations has been published online.

The battle took place near Zapadne and Dvorichna. Russian troops had set up defensive positions there, which were attacked by a group of five foreign assault troops from the Defence Forces.

The assault group’s operations were supported from the air by operators of RUBPAK strike UAVs from the National Guard’s ‘Khartiia’ Brigade. The drone operators identified the enemy and struck at Russian troops, helping the assault troops to advance and clear the position.

According to DeepState, the 23rd RUG assault unit, part of the 2nd Khartiia Corps, retook Zapadne and the wooded areas south and east of the village. 

In early September, the press service of the RUG unit said that they had cleared the territory between the settlements of Zapadne and Dvorichna, 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the village.
