In recent weeks, Ukrainian special operations forces have defeated elements of three Russian combat brigades attempting to breach the Sumy region, reportedly killing or wounding hundreds and capturing prisoners, according to Ukrainian and Russian sources. The most recent assault was conducted by operators from the 73rd Marines in coordination with the 144th Special Forces. 700-1,000 Russian troops were killed, wounded, or captured in the multiple operations.
Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SSO) have carried out a successful assault in the North Slobozhansky sector, killing seven Russian soldiers and capturing their position.
A video of the operation was published by the SSO on Telegram.
The North Slobozhansky sector refers to a section of the front line in Ukraine’s Sumy region. The assault was conducted by operators from the 73rd Marine Center in coordination with the 144th SSO Center.
According to the report, Ukrainian forces approached the Russian position and first offered Russians a chance to surrender. When they refused, the SSO launched a swift, coordinated raid. Despite resistance, all Russian troops at the position were killed.
Ukrainian soldiers seized Russian weapons and documents. During the clearing operation, Russian forces opened mortar fire in an attempt to destroy the assault group. One Ukrainian soldier was wounded but received prompt medical assistance; his life is not in danger.
The video, which Kyiv Post was unable to independently verify, shows footage from chest-mounted cameras of close-quarters combat, exchanges of fire, and the bodies of Russian soldiers.
Warning: The released footage contains graphic content.
The SSO emphasized that the success was due to careful planning, advanced training, and precise coordination among all participants in the assault.
In recent weeks, Ukrainian commando infantry have defeated elements of three Russian combat brigades attempting to breach the Sumy region, reportedly killing or wounding hundreds and capturing prisoners, according to Ukrainian and Russian sources.
The two-week battle marked a stark reversal of recent Russian gains elsewhere, with Moscow’s forces – motor rifle and elite marine units – trapped and eliminated by Ukrainian artillery, FPV drones, and rocket fire.
Sources including official Ukrainian channels, OSINT platforms, and Russian milbloggers confirmed a decisive Ukrainian victory, with around 700 Russian troops eliminated or captured near the village of Kindrativka, four kilometers from Russia’s Kursk region.
Ukrainian milbloggers estimate 700-1,000 Russian troops were killed, wounded, or captured in the operation.
The 225th Regiment published footage showing Ukrainian troops in control of the village and Russian bodies scattered nearby. Unconfirmed reports said Kyiv’s forces also took the adjacent village of Andriivka, though heavy fighting continued.
Russian counterattacks on July 17–18 failed under intense Ukrainian bombardment. Ukrainian troops then tightened the perimeter, bombarding trapped Russian forces and targeting them with drones. By Thursday, Russian resistance collapsed; Kindrativka was fully under Ukrainian control by Friday.
Russian sources described dire conditions inside the pocket: dwindling ammo, medical supplies, food, and water.
