Ukraine 46th Airmobile Brigade "Smashes" Russian Armor Assault On Pokrovsk

The pace of determined Russian attacks on Pokrovsk has picked up over the past month as initial Kremlin hopes the entire city would - finally - be taken were dashed again. With the pace of negotiations having picked up, Putin is concerned that a less than Kremlin-friendly agreement may be reached so he is pushing to create 'facts on the ground.'

But the pace of successful Russian attacks remains as it has been for over the past year - dismal. JL

Paratroopers of the 46th Airmobile Brigade together with neighboring brigades smashed a mechanised convoy of Russian troops attempting an assault to establish positions along railway lines in Pokrovsk to enable further advances. "Using the fog as cover, the enemy attempted to attack positions, using up to 10 armored vehicles and several dozen infantry but their movements had been detected in advance."

A unit from the 3rd Special Operations Regiment was deployed to carry out the mission. During the operation, Ukrainian forces killed two additional Russian soldiers who had been hiding in dugouts, the statement said.

“Despite heavy Russian artillery fire, our group successfully completed the task and prevented the enemy from securing its planned positions,” the Special Operations Forces said.

Ukraine’s top military commander, Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi, said Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back Russian advances in the Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad urban area despite intensified pressure from Russian troops, Dec. 13.

Earlier, the 7th Air Assault Corps reported that assault troops from the Skelia Regiment raised a Ukrainian flag in central Pokrovsk, Dec. 11.

Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing two sources on the Pokrovsk front, that all roads Ukrainian units could use to withdraw from Myrnohrad are currently in the so-called gray zone, Dec. 10. Russian forces recently seized part of the village of Rivne, one of two settlements critical to logistics in the area, the outlet said.
