Russian Assault Group at Pokrovsk 'Annhilated,' Sole Survivor Surrenders

The significance of this battle - or skirmish - is that it characterizes the state of the war in Ukraine this summer.

Russian forces attempt to attack under pressure from Moscow, which is desperately trying to convince the world that it remains an effective military power. The small scale assaults it can muster are almost invariably defeated with heavy losses. The Kremlin will keep trying because it does not want to admit that its only serious threat remains shooting missiles and drones at civilian targets like buses, trains and apartment buildings. JL

New Voice of Ukraine reports:

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces annihilated a Russian assault group on the Pokrovsk front, capturing one survivor. The operation, conducted by the 144th SOF alongside operators of reconnaissance drones, FPV-drones, drop systems, mortar crews, and grenade launchers, targeted a Russian unit that had previously disrupted a Ukrainian rotation. “The operation began with FPV-drone strikes on a locomotive where the occupiers were hiding. After the locomotive caught fire, the enemies tried to flee. Most were eliminated. One wounded soldier pretended to be dead but later surrendered."

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces annihilated a Russian assault group on the Pokrovsk front, capturing one survivor, the SOF announced on Telegram on June 24, sharing video footage and details of the operation.

The operation, conducted by the 144th SOF Center group alongside operators of reconnaissance drones, FPV-drones, drop systems, mortar crews, and grenade launchers, targeted a Russian unit that had previously disrupted a Ukrainian rotation, killing one defender and wounding another.

“The operation began with FPV-drone strikes on a locomotive where the occupiers were hiding,” the SOF stated. “After the locomotive caught fire, six enemies tried to flee. Five were eliminated. One wounded soldier pretended to be dead but later surrendered, thanks to the effective actions of the ‘Botsman’ and ‘Velyk’ drop crews.”

The captured Russian was guided to Ukrainian positions by drones and evacuated.

“If we can exchange him for one of our guys without excessive risk, why not do it?” said the group’s commander, “Pravyi,” who helped transport the prisoner.

The Pokrovsk front remains the hottest frontline sector. According to the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, 165 combat clashes occurred across the front in the past day as of June 24 morning, with Ukrainian defenders repelling 54 Russian assaults on the Pokrovsk front.
