During Operation Vivaldi, which lasted from May to mid-October, units of the Russian Rubicon Center for Unmanned Systems abandoned their positions after suffering heavy losses. The commander of the Center military group, Andriy Biletsky, told Radio Svoboda.
This is reported by Радіо Свобода.
They are actually very sensitive to losses. These guys are used to being moved to a sector, doing their job, hunting our pilots first, and then dodging away. They aren’t used to being hunted.

According to Biletsky, specialists from the 3rd Brigade and the 21st Regiment of the Center military group worked specifically against Russian drone operators.
They decided they would not destroy antennas. If they found a Rubicon position, they would use any number of FPV drones, bombers and so on to completely and totally eliminate its personnel. And when Rubicon began losing its pilots to deaths, morale among its members fell sharply right away.

The Rubicon Center for Unmanned Systems is one of the leading units in the Russian armed forces. Its operators are better trained and have better equipment and logistical support. Other Russian army units also use drones, but have less time to train specialists and often face drone shortages.
Analysts estimate that from March to September 2026, Russian forces lost control of nearly 300 square kilometers of previously occupied Ukrainian territory. During Operation Vivaldi, the Ukrainian Defense Forces liberated at least 147 square kilometers in the area around Lyman over several months.
