Chechen Akhmat Battalion Training Area Destroyed by Ukraine Himars

Given their savage reputation but indifferent battlefield performance, it is unlikely that anyone outside of Chechnya will mourn them. JL

Dmytro Shumlianskyi reports in Militarnyi:

Ukrainian forces launched a missile strike using HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems on an Akhmat Battalion training area in the Kursk region. Ukrainian reconnaissance drones detected Russian activity at an improvised training area near the border with Ukraine. Shortly afterward, missiles were launched at the site. Preliminary reports indicate “dozens” of casualties.

Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a missile strike using HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems on an Akhmat Special Battalion training area of the Russian National Guard in the Kursk region.

The Exilenova+ community published the video of the strike.

According to the video, reconnaissance drones detected Russian activity at an improvised training area near the border with Ukraine. Shortly afterward, several missiles were launched at the site. The channel said preliminary reports indicate “dozens” of casualties.

In early May, it was reported that between February and April 2026, the Defense Intelligence’s (DIU) special unit Shamanbat, which includes volunteers from Ichkeria, together with the 104th brigade of the Horyn Regional Directorate, performed a complex operation to target members of the Russian National Guard Akhmat unit using an infiltrated agent.

Information about the enemy’s plans and intentions was passed to military intelligence by an agent, a former Akhmat serviceman, with whom the DIU established contact in early 2025. Intelligence officers later organized the agent’s safe passage to territory controlled by Ukraine.

In Akhmat’s meeting room, he installed a listening device that had been delivered behind the front line by an FPV drone. DIU operatives recorded conversations of the unit’s command staff.

It is noted that the intelligence obtained in this way allowed Ukrainian special forces to track Kadyrov’s supporters during movements and at areas of concentration.

It was stated that as a result of the operation, the Russian unit suffered its heaviest losses since the start of the full-scale invasion over a two-month period: 41 killed and 87 wounded. More than 100 fighters were listed as missing.
